If we need to shut down classrooms due to high infections in order to protect our children, teachers and all our families, let’s do it. But let’s have the option to keep going with our education virtually. I am not a fan of virtual and my kid didn’t enjoy it at all either but it’s better then having to do class work at home without teacher instruction (which is the only option we have now, if we have to quarantine). Please reconsider.

Though in person school is the hope and goal, charter schools should be able to choose whether they provide a virtual option for families. Virtual learning isnt the ideal, but neither is covid transmission in schools.

It is ridiculous NOT to allow the Charters to do this, especially when the public schools can. In Spring of 2020 my daughter was attending a Charter that went all virtual when everything closed down. Her teachers kept on teaching and engaging any students who wanted to be online with them, even though it was not being required at that time. This was a saving grace for our daughter. It kept her engaged in learning (something many of the kids who’s schools just stopped are suffering from) and really helped guide her into the methods we had to use last year. She did not fall behind in learning at all. And, as an only child, it was a lifeline to her peers and other social contact. There is no reason why Charter schools shouldn’t be allowed to do this for the betterment of their students and their families.

Just like Wake and other counties have virtual academies, charter schools need to be able to offer their students a safe option to ensure their health as well as education.

Any school that is concerned about children’s safety, particularly those too young to be vaccinated, should offer a virtual option. We are way past politics now and should be about public safety.

I firmly believe this is the parents choice. It’s not the government’s decision, the schools, the teachers, or a board’s decision. Every child is different. Every families circumstances are different. This should be the parents decision until covid has been eliminated.

My wife has cancer but we love our charter school because they have a wonderful special education program that actually meets the needs of my special needs child. WCPSS failed her. I need a virtual charter option with my daughters school to keep my wife safe and for my daughter to continue to get an education.

This is incredibly needed both for parents with serious medical conditions who worry about their children bringing home a version of the virus or other disease and children who need to have that option available immediately if they become ill.

I support this petition as a charter school parents in wake county. With everyday rise in covid new case numbers, CDC and Wake county bringing back mask mandate is making us nervous and worried. Recent news articles on covid clusters within schools also is a big indication of significant risk to children going back to school in person.
Should there be a revised guidance and consideration to extend virtual school option for few additional months atleast based on prevailing circumstances? In the best interest of having to avoid an outbreak in the middle of the school year, option for virtual academy at this point, if provided, would work for students' and staffs' mutual benefit. It would certainly ease our anxiety as parents who have worked extremely hard over the past year and a half to keep our child safe.
