The Natural Area on campus is a spring-fed pond (called a fen) that is used as a bio-retention pond and has been restored with native plants and a monarch butterfly garden. Solar aerators were installed a few years ago to help keep algae levels down. A lot of hard work has been done in the Natural Area to encourage native species to use it as their habitat, and for faculty and students to receive tangible experience with native plants and animals in this aquatic community
We do not want this work to go to waste, and harmful practices such as cutting down cat tails and spraying herbicide set back the wonderful work done by many faculty members and students. Steps must be taken to prevent harmful practices on this delicate habitat.

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING MY TIME MEETING WITH FACULTY WHO ARE ABSOLUTELY TIRED OF SEEING OUR NATIVE HABITAT GET DESTROYED BY THESE RECKLESS PRACTICES!! THE STORIES YOU ARE SHARING IN THE COMMENTS PROVE THAT THIS POND IS A VITAL PIECE OF OUR CAMPUS LIFE AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET THEM RUIN IT ANY LONGER!!

I AM ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY BY THE SURGE OF SUPPORT FOR OUR NATURAL AREA!! THE MOMENTUM IS COMPLETELY UNSTOPPABLE AND PROVES THAT THIS BEAUTIFUL HABITAT IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR!!

Keep the cattails! Nature knows what its doing better than the grounds crew does.
STOP THE SPRAYING. My bio lab spent hours planting those natives just to watch them get killed back.
THE BUTTERFLIES NEED THIS SPACE! Dont ruin it.
