We belive that September 11 should be a day of national recognition/appreciation for all emergency workers who risk their lives daily for each of us and to remember those who have lost their lives saving ours. This is a simple way to say \"thank you\" and show our appreciation for these special people. Our goal is to have September 11, a national recognition day by September 11, 2003. However, on September 11, 2002 for all of those signing and supporting this petition, we would like everyone to drive with their headlights on all day, in addition to stopping whatever you are doing at 12:00 noon and have a moment of silence. This petition will be sent to: President George Bush Congress All US Senators

Updates

November 1, 2003

I am truly overwhelmed by the turnout for this cause. This momentum belongs entirely to you because I never imagined so many people would join me in this effort to honor our emergency workers.

Long overdue. The least we can do for the men and women who run toward danger when everyone else is running away.

My brother is a firefighter and I see how hard he works every single shift. They deserve this day more than anyone.

Headlights on. We will never forget what happened that day or the heroes who gave everything.
