Petition for National Fire Ant Awareness Day

Petition for National Fire Ant Awareness Day Many people across the country are faced with fire ants and the dangers the pests create for families and pets. Since they were introduced to the United States in the 1930\'s, fire ants have spread and infested the majority of the southern states, plaguing the land and all its inhabitants. Fire ants have reached as far north as Delaware and as far west as California. Beyond stinging humans and animals, consequences arise due to crop losses, damage to farming machinery, and electrical equipment, too. The devastation is costing people billions of dollars to manage fire ants and fix the damage. In an effort to establish a system of communication and awareness about this agitation, we are creating a National Fire Ant Awareness Day. We are uniting together against the common threat of fire ants, making a stand, and seeking recognition that this issue needs to come to the attention of the country as a whole, as it has the possibility to infest the entire nation. Through educational events planned in 2007 and signatures attained from this petition we are working to show support for our legislators to recognize fire ant awareness nationally through the implementation of National Fire Ant Awareness Day. Please show your support in education and eradication of the red imported fire ant by participating in this petition to create a National Fire Ant Awareness Day.
