Petition for a National Accessibility Act in Canada
Petition for a
National Accessibility Act
In principle, all people with disabilities have equal rights according to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. These rights are further delineated in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Canada signed in March 2010. Yet, in practical terms, there are many barriers which prevent people with disabilities from full and equal participation in Canadian life. We, the undersigned, are asking the Canadian Government to enact a National Accessibility Act which will ensure and enable full accessibility and equal participation to all people with disabilities in all Canadian provinces and territories.
The goal of Kilometres for Communication is to put equality in motion for all Canadians with disabilities, and to ensure that the voices of those without speech are enabled, empowered and heard.
