Congress has yet to determine the yearly budget in order to allow national laboratories across the US, run by the Department of Energy, to perform critical research. How does this affect you If you are concerned about our dependence on foreign oil, use computers, utilize healthcare services, want a cleaner environment, or believe in continued research for US security, then you need to sign this petition. Additionally, if you live in the same community as one of the labs, the employment of several thousands of individuals has a profound effect on local businesses, in turn, local & national economies. As of now these labs have not received their yearly budget allocation, which allows them to operate & do new research. Congress must act quickly to protect the employment of thousands and avoid hampering progress & research efforts necessary for scientific advancement in numerous areas. This petition\'s purpose is to request Congress take swift action & formulate a budget to keep national laboratories operating effectively in 2007.

My name is Sarah Zidel; I am a recent occupational therapy graduate. I have several family and friends with long histories of employment at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois. I care very deeply that the types of research these laboratories do could be slowed, or stopped. The research in the Bio Sciences could directly affect the type of medical care that would be available in the near term to the students I am presently working with.
