We, the undersigned, believe
1) That the current practice of allowing individual states to set their own science standards is contributing to the lack of scientific literacy among Americans.
2) That the current practice of allowing individual states to determine their own science education standards is putting American high school students at risk of missing important concepts.
3) That these problems can be remedied by mandating that all states follow a nationally set standard, namely, those set forth in the Next Generation Science Standards.
