Please support Dr. Rodriguez's request for a breakdown of the election results. Let's use this incident as an opportunity to increase NARST's transparency on decision-making and elections.

I hope that the NARST bylaws will be reviewed and revised with an eye toward increased transparency for elected positions and other matters for which votes are taken.

I tried to change this process a few years ago and discovered that only changes in bylaws can yield these types of votes. We moved towards making changes in the bylaws, and they were not changed because we need a majority of the membership to vote in the positive. This is disappointing and undermines the potential of this organization.

There should be more transparency in NARST for all its members. I respectfully request that Dr. Rodriguez see his vote count.

I believe sharing the election results will make the process democratic and visible to the NARST membership. This may allow increased participation from the membership. Thanks for considering and let's raise the bar for our organization.

I was surprised to find out that election results (votes) could not be shared. What harm is there in that?

It is no secret that Alberto and I have been friends and colleagues in NARST together for quite some time. I, too, believe that transparency is best for any organization. While I am not entirely sure how to make this occur, I have been surprised by difficulty to make certain changes to our organization. Currently the Board, Presidential Team, and several other groups and individuals are working hard to make important changes for transparency and governance. Yet despite our mammoth efforts to inform the organization of needed changes to the Bylaws (e.g., town hall meetings, Presidential speeches, legal reviews, business advisors, voting reminders, open forums) we STILL couldn't get 50% voting on an item which affects us all. We need lots more members to be active in change in NARST and give those who are in positions of leadership in NARST (Board, Presidents) the support to change from its membership. Many are trying to address these issues. If we do not succeed to inspire more of our colleagues to stand with us for these greater principles, these leaders may fatigue. Even if elected as President, Alberto, nor any other elected individual, could make these changes alone. The membership must step up with their voting and by other means...something that the NARST membership for some reason has not been willing to do on a great number of fronts.

Apologies if I don't know the half of this but surely the numerical results should be realised at least to the candidates?

Dear Friends: The American Psychological Association and the American Chemical Society openly publishes the results of all of their elections (see link below), so why on earth would the NARST leadership refuse to make public the vote breakdown for the position of President-elect as I requested? We have democratic elections, but we are denied basic democratic rights???
Sign the petition and let's change this odd and unwritten policy

I believe that it is appropriate for election results to be released, if not to the entire membership, then at least to the people running for the election.

I support transparency as an enactment of social justice. Anything less is deliberately and knowingly unjust.
