CITIZEN'S PETITION
FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION BY THE NANTUCKET SCHOOL COMMITTEE
We, the undersigned concerned citizens of Nantucket, respectfully petition the Nantucket School Committee to immediately:
1.) Require their employee, Dr. Robert Pellicone, Superintendent of Schools, to enter into immediate, good-faith discussions with NES Principal John Miller via professional mediation with the goals of reinstating John Miller as NES Principal, providing him with a written three year (minimum) contract, as required by law, and requiring Dr. Pellicone and John Miller to work together respectfully in the best interests of the children, parents, and staff at Nantucket Elementary School;
2.) Halt any and all plans, discussions or implementation of a restructuring plan for NES until such mediation has occurred between John Miller and Dr. Robert Pellicone;
3.) Prevent or deter any further public challenges of any employee of the Nantucket School System in public during School Committee meetings or elsewhere in a public setting or environment as those discussions are required by confidentiality laws to be held in Executive Sessions of the Nantucket School Committee or otherwise in private;
We, the undersigned citizens, believe that John Miller has the knowledge, connections, skill and experience needed to meet our challenges during the corrective action placed upon NES by the Massachusetts Department of Education; that he is our best option for immediate, necessary and successful action, and that he should be reinstated immediately and allowed to finish the work he was contractually hired to do to bring NES out of a state of corrective action, along with the support of his administrator, the Superintendent of Schools, and our elected school board officials, the Nantucket School Committee.
Please help by signing this petition.
The School Committee continues to ignore the chaos Superintendent Pellicone is creating at our elementary school. We are demanding the mediation that will force these people to do their jobs and stop the reckless restructuring of our children's education.

Whatever is going on behind closed doors needs to stop. The focus should be on the students not this constant drama.

The way this is being handled in public is unprofessional and embarrassing for the town. Mediation is the only way forward.

John Miller has done so much for our kids. Why are they trying to push him out when we need stability the most right now?

This is ridiculous. Keep the politics out of our elementary school and let the man work.
