Naming A Section Of Highway To Honor Dr. M. Lois Eargle
Dr. M. Lois Eargle, who is the current Auditor of Horry County, has had a long and distinguished career of public service to the people of South Carolina. She has represented Horry County as a politician, as a political appointee, as a member of charity organizations, professional women's organizations, the Conway and Myrtle Beach Chambers of Commerce, and as a vested businesswoman. She has been a legislator, a state Highway Commissioner, a presidential commission appointee (under Ronald Reagan), an assistant Secretary of State of South Carolina, and worked on and headed several political campaigns, presidential as well as local and regional efforts. She was also instrumental in altering the state's constitution to allow for the formation of South Carolina's current judicial system and, in doing so, was selected as the first non-jurist, non-lawyer to sit on the board of the American Judicature Society.
