Concept is to create an industry within an existing industry, specifically promoting GUMBO, as the State Historical Dish.
Benefits of the project are wide reaching and will create new business opportunities for many.
Benefactors will be, Farmers of Okra, Tomatoes, Onions, Rice and Grits, sausage producers, shrimp dealers and fishermen. Opportunity abounds for established and new restaurants.
The Gullah Trail should see increased interest as a specific dish is featured thereby by creating interest and a DESTINATION food for all tourists to experience.

The phone calls to local distributors have been exhausting but the potential for our farmers and fishermen keeps me moving forward. Getting people to see the economic future of this dish is a slow process that feels uphill most days. I am still grinding away at the outreach even when the silence from those in charge is discouraging.

I appreciate your suggestions but let me state this once more, I am interested in Gumbo being the HISTORICAL Dish of SC. Grits is already the State FOOD. Bog dates to the 1700's while gumbo dates to the 1600's.
My grandmother has been cooking gumbo in Charleston for 50 years. Its about time we got some recognition for this history.
Praise the Lord and pass the hot sauce!
Before gumbo SC should choose chicken bog, shrimp & grits, or hash. NOT GUMBO.
Yes love it
SC Gumbo!
Gumbo is great!!
