It is good business and good sense to replace Zoe Saldana who was cast to play Lt. Uhura in the new -re-invisioned STAR TREK movie series. For her to play Nina Simmone a very African looking blues singer of the 1950's thru the 1980's is ludicris and very insulting to blues afficianoto's. In addition, it is an afront to the sensibilities of most American's of African descent. Particularly, people who are mainstays of the entertainment industries especially singers and musicians. Miss Saldana has also indicated she is NOT BLACK. To say the least, most South American's, Carribean Islanders and Spanish speakers of the America's often refuse to admit their obvious heritage from their slave ancestors. As regards to movie roles: Gay Women are not believeable as a romantic partner in a HETEROSEXUAL relationship. She should have kept her sexual preferences to herself. If she cannot understand black heritage because she does not want to be black she wants to be white or Caucasian. Most non black American's to be polite will let her pretense and oversight of the struggle for Civil Rights for Black people of North and South America. She is playing the same game that Tiger Woods played. The sun can make a fair skin person darker but not brown of black. Most peoples of the Lower America's and the carribean Islanders (Nassau, Cuba, Jamaica, Grenada, etc) are of mixed blood. Usually Native Indian (Carrib, Inca, Azteca, Brazilian forest dwellers, Columbian Indian's,etc). Just as in North America, the African slaves often ran away to join the Native Indian's tribes to be free. Since Zoe Saldana only claims her Spanish racial heritage it is not cool for her to play a famous Black American.
