The NYC Council has 19 members so far that are in agreement to impose this outrageous "Retail Tax". This undoubtedly will be a financial burden only for the so-called middle class. Our Senior Citizens Living on a fixed income who do not receive Food Stamps. It is not really a tax that will be going to help our seniors or our children, in fact, the city will not benefit from this imposed tax, instead the "Retailer" will receive it. I have never heard of a tax that would only benefit the retailer and not the city or the state. This proposed action is totally outrageous..

Those who are on food stamps or the wic program are exempt. It discriminates against the middle class. We Are The Working fools that will pay.

Most importantly, using a cloth bag will undoubtedly cause cross contamination between meat and fresh produce The Food Markets that we shop at, already have overpriced food items, now they want to charge us to put the food in a plastic bag. This is truly the meaning of "insult to injury"

The feedback confirms exactly what we feared about the burden on our pockets. We are tracking every new proposal and staying ready for the next round of debates.

All this will do is destroy the large and small retailers. It will make online shopping more appealing.

Enough with punishing the middle working class. Everyone else gets a free pass except for those that pay taxes and have many bills to pay! NO.

Yet another burden on hard working NY'ers? What abot those without a car? Are we supposed to drag 10 cloth bags with us each time we go out to shop for our families? This is nuts. Instead, how about some sort of tax bonus for those who comply and don't use plastic?

We do not need a further TAX put upon us-the cost of living is high enough! A further profit to put in the pockets of retailers? I don't think so! Please vote NO.

My problem is that most of these people ran their elections by saying they would help the poor and the middle class. The majority of people shop in bulk and there is no way, that can be done with clothe bags. I hate to imagine meats in a clothe bag. Besides these retailers are making profits selling their food, why must they made 10 cents more per plastic bag. It hurts us consumers

This is a regressive tax.
