My dad was imprisoned on a false testimony now recanted, please help bring him home.
On October 16, 2003
my father Kenneth Thomas, was convicted and given a life sentence in
prison for a crime he did not commit. That was 12 years ago, I was 4
years old when he was taken and my younger brother was only 6 months.
Throughout these many years my dad has maintained the best possible
relationship with me and has always maintained his innocence; but the
day came when the truth revealed itself through a phone conversation. The
states star witness who falsely testified against my dad was admitting
to lying in exchange for a sweetheart deal out of prison. Though he was
unaware of who all was listening to the conversation it would not
matter, because he had already made up in his mind to tell the truth,
which is exactly what he did.
On December 6, 2012 in a
notorized affadavit he admitted to the Court he lied those years ago and
that in fact " Mr. Thomas was [not] in anyway involved before, during
or after”. Finally, the Courts would hear the new evidence and on
February 18, 2014 my father stood again before the same judge as the
witness recanted his previous testimony. He admitted to the judge that
he had an "innocent man" in prison. He was even threatened by the states
DA that he would be indicted on murder charges, still he insisted to
tell the truth. My dad's lawyer was also able to prove that he did
indeed get out of prison right after blaming my father for the crime.
We were elated with high hopes the nightmare was ending and the
relationship I had been robbed of would be restored. Well, on April 2,
2014 those hopes were once again ripped from us as we learned Judge
Norman denied the request for a dismal or new trial. The decisionwas
just as much baffling as it is devastating considering therewas no
evidence of any kind to link my father to the crime, no DNA, no
eyewitnesses, absolutely nothing ;only the testimony of the man now
recanting.
So, here we are now- asking for the help of those who
know whats right is right, and whats unjust is unjust to sign this
petition as the next step is to Appeal the decision. This is not a case
of a man who did it, but a case of a man who DID NOT do it. Why then, is
he paying for it? Your support is so greatly needed and appreciated.
Thank you. Kyree Thomas.
