my addict was put in jail after overdosing and damaging his heart . Jails are not treatment centers. My son died of an overdose Oct 24 2013

Keep up the good work! As a Recovering Addict I find this to be so crucial. our lived ones are dying and when we try to do right by them professionals who are trained to know that addicts are cunning and deceitful because they really are not in their right mind are listening to them and releasing them back to the danger zone. I don't understand it and find it so disheartening. How can any addict be deemed NOT a threat to their own safety? Their addiction is killing them. How is that NOT dangerous. I fully support this!!!

Please begin to understand that an addict will say anything to get their next high and not be put into treatment. The families have been there time and time again and want to get them help to save them.
Deceipt is a major part of addiction. Having gone thru my mothers sobriety and currently trying to get my sister sober, deceipt is one of the most frustrating parts of addiction. If these "doctors" don't believe the family...ask for input form friends, co-worker etc. - a court order is typically the last resort of a family who has done everything and everything else they can to get the addict help.
