During curriculum night at the beginning of this school year, it was stated that Ms. Travis would be the music teacher for the J1/J2 children consistently throughout the whole school year. This was wonderful news, and she turned out to be a truly amazing music teacher and a real asset to the school. Her enthusiasm, quality of teaching and enthusiastic interaction with the children make her a wonderful fit for the community.

It now seems that Ms. Travis is scheduled to end her assignment in January.

Our children have music class twice a week. Music class is a place where many common issues can be worked on successfully. Music education helps boost self-esteem, and can provide a safe space for the children to explore their feelings, improve their focusing skills, as well as develop skills that are useful in other areas, such as language development and spatial-temporal skills.

For a few years now, young students at UNIS haven't had a consistent music teacher who took them from the beginning to the end of the school year, so we hope that Ms. Travis can continue to be a presence in the classroom at least through the end of this school year (and hopefully beyond), just as it was communicated to the parents back in September.
