It is very important "for codes to be applied consistently and property rights to be respected." The reason for the neighbor's opposition, which is copied below, could be used by many to oppose construction on their neighbor's property, including me. Reason for opposition: "They simply prefer the current open view into our backyard and want to preserve it."

I fully support the Murray’s desire to enhance their home, neighborhood and city of Norcross.

I support the family being able to build this structure. It is a similar structure to many other 2 story garages already built in our neighborhood.

I support this family adding the detached garage. Please vote in favor of allowing them to do this project. Thank you.

Your family embodies the heart of Norcross and welcomes so many. Praying this gets approved so that you can continue to use your house to bless many. The plans are gorgeous and only increase property value and functionality of your home.

Your building request seems perfectly reasonable. Precedent has already been set for The City to support it.

I’m in full support of the Murray’s.

We can have Norcross put non-historic, strange looking deck structures in parking spots downtown and these poor people can’t build what appears to be an authentically historic looking garage with more intention than just to store a car? I have no more words….

This is sad that we even have to get to this point. Norcross needs to get their act together ASAP!

People should be allowed to improve their property and add value to the neighborhood as a whole especially when it is tastefully done. Ironic this is being held up by zoning when there are plenty of eyesore properties in Norcross that have been allowed through...

As a current homeowner in Norcross, allowing a disgruntled neighbor’s desire to be able to see into another neighbor’s backyard is an unsettling reason for blocking construction that has been already been approved by the city. Honestly, this should be more concerning to the city officials than the height of an ADU.

The choice here is obvious for the city, either approve this project or see a mass exodus of people like the Murray family that are doing their part to make Norcross not just a place to imagine, but a place that is worth imagining.

As a 6 year homeowner in Norcross it often seems like the powers that be do their best to impede growth. I know we have to protect our historic roots, but we are paying very high taxes and would like to see projects that hold promise completed. Do many are left in limbo and it seems developers feel frustrated and back out. There has to be a middle ground.

Let them build! This sounds so far beyond reasonable. As fellow homeowners in Norcross, we are so frustrated and discouraged for you. A person should be able to improve and enjoy their own property without being met with constant resistance. We’ve heard so many stories of how difficult the City can be to work with, and sadly, this only confirms it. We’re praying that wisdom, fairness, and true community-mindedness would guide these decisions. Lord, bring growth, unity, and blessing to our neighborhood and to the people who call Norcross home.

Absolutely absurd they better approve this for you all!!

As a resident of Norcross for over 5 years, I continue to hear stories from homeowners & business owners mentioning that it is so hard to do business with the City of Norcross. The city has properties that are falling apart and you have someone that wants to make the home value of the area to go up but continue to deny improvements. We have to see change or the city will start to go backwards!
