We, the undersigned, as South African Municipality employees herewith demand that the South African Municipal Employer, grant us our democratic right to be able to change our Pension Fund to the best Pension Fund option of our choice. We are unhappy to notice that there are some Municipal Employees, who with much shorter service than other employees, are able to be on a much better Pension Fund, which almost offer them 5 times as much in one year, as what other Pension Funds offer - over 5 years. This is tantamount to an unequal treatment of the Municipality workers, and we demand that this situation change with immediate effect. For instance, an Employee on the SALA (South African Local Authorities) Pension Fund, on a grade 10, has only accumulated R157 000 in his/her fund over a period of 5 years - as where an Employee on an equal grade with more or less the same Pension Fund contribution, has accumulated R188 000 in less than one year with the Cape Joint Pension Fund! Each and every Municipal Worker has a right to belong to the best Pension Fund, and if the Municipality Employer makes provision for different Pension Funds, the onus is on them to ensure that their employees have the best Pension Fund option.
