I've been doing TM for 40 years and absolutely agree that MUM should not be a grooming ground for future TM teachers, nor should an "ideal lifestyle" be pushed on the students, aside from the required meditation. I do find it incredible though, that students do not know that the school is affiliated with the TM Movement before attending. Everyone else seems to know.

These concerns are completely valid and 100% reflect my experience as a former student at MUM who left over these reasons. Also it should be addressed that it is OKAY to visit other gurus (Amma, etc).

I sent a long letter to the University which best represents my views on all this. The main thing is that the students (and so many in the greater community here in Fairfield) feel oppressed, and I think that is a very real problem. Hope this can all be sorted out.

If the concept of a divorce between the movement and the university were enacted by the administration with enough conviction, everything else would follow in time. Similarly, if this concept is not embraced by the university, every other requested change will be menial.

Hi, I'm an Alumni who intended to make my life in FF until the weight of the cultural issues described in this petition eventually drove me to seek a less oppressive climate. Such broad changes to the community's culture as described here aren't going to happen overnight, nor without pressure applied to the administration, and I would encourage the petition authors to start a bigger discussion around some concrete action steps to get the shift started.

As an alumni, I support the student body in this petition. I enjoyed my time at MUM, but would have enjoyed it much more and felt much more comfortable if these ideas had been adopted. Please consider these suggestions and open the way for a better future for the university.
