The school has officially reversed the decision and Year 13 students will retain the privilege of wearing mufti next year. This outcome confirms that our concerns regarding fairness and cost were heard by the administration. I appreciate the collective persistence shown by everyone who supported this position.

Gisborne Girls High School has decided to make the Year 13’s of 2017 wear Uniform instead of Mufti. They are bringing in a new set of uniform for us to choose from, the shirts costing around $60 by themselves. They said that wearing mufti would cost much more than wearing a set of uniform but you won't buy just one set, you will need at least 2, so two shirts would make it $120, and that's without the skirts, optional jacket, and the jersey. They said we are able to wear our Yr 11, and 12 uniform but then that does not distinguish us between them. This is all highly unfair, and if they are going to introduce uniforms for Yr 13’s do it as the new Yr 9’s are coming into the school so they are aware and don’t have false hope.

i believe as a year 13 that the next years on from that should be able to wear mufti, some of our mothers went through girls high and wore mufti, its a tradition. the prices of the uniform that the students will wear for about three and a half terms will be a ridiculous expense.
Most of the senior students will have to pay for these ridiculously expensive uniforms out of their own wages! Which is highly unfair on those who could barely afford the first 2 sets of uniforms. They'll only be wearing it for approximately 3 terms plus 4 weeks to be exact, so not worth the money. Let them wear mufti!!
Very disappointed in this decision, phase this in if you must but don't penalise the current year 12 students,who have earned the right to wear mufti next year, for some irresponsible decisions previous year 13s have made. You are asking the girls to behave like mature young women and then stripping them of ability to demonstrate that. I'm in the workforce, I wear a uniform, it's supplied by my employer...maybe GGHS should do look at doing the same, after all these girls are heading out there soon...

I'm a former girls high student and I don't think that having a uniform for year 13 is acceptable. For years year 13s have been wearing mufti, why change it now? Just because a few people slip up doesn't mean you have to punish people who haven't had a chance to prove themselves yet.
Mufti should still be allowed. Considering that this Is Something to look forward to when you become a year 13 is Unfair.
As a parent of an attending student, I think it has been an appalling (lack of due diligence) process whereby the incoming Yr 13 students are being punished (as are the aprents who have to buy yet another uniform) due to the behaviours of outgoing students. The lack of consultation or discourse (as far as I am aware) around how this could be approached for 2017 is concerning as it intimates a lack of trust and consideration for students (and parents) to participate in bringing about collective change. Let's hope the democratic process is not stifled in this regard. Jon Rush

There should be consultation with parents re this - 3 uniform changes in 5 yrs is a financial burden on parents. It seems as though this decision has been made because of bad dress sense by a minority so once again the majority have to pay!!
