This is 1930s authoritarianism all over again. Such a brutal grab for domination over the Academy, its members, its assets, is unworthy of Hungarian victories over Communism, fascism, and indeed over stupidity. Hungary’s scholars and people deserve freedom and respect from their *fellow citizens* who have been given the honour to govern the country.

I support the plea of my Hungarian colleagues to Mr. Weber as a last resort to defend academic freedom and the right to property as institutions of liberal democracy in Hungary and the rest of the European Union.

I would like to support Hungarian academics and I have previously taught in Hungarian universities - ELTE and CEU - but I don't know if I am eligible to sign now that I am back in the US.

The typical Attitudes of an authoritarian regime that seeks to progressively reduce democracy - an international phenomenon that must be stopped at all costs.
