The oath to which MSIH students swear obligates us to “protect human life maximally from the mother’s womb and let its welfare ever be (our) chief concern.” We are unwilling to take the oath with the phrase “from the mother’s womb” included, and we will therefore individually choose to either not fully participate in the oath ceremony or not attend at all. We will join all of our classmates in swearing the oath if it can be rewritten without this phrase.

With regard to the part about not fully participating in the ceremony, I am considering not attending at all, sitting during the offensive statement, and not saying Amen at the end of the reading. If anyone has thoughtful options, I would really love to hear them.
