The board finally committed to having an officer at every school throughout the day. It has been a long and draining road but seeing this safety plan finalized confirms that our persistence paid off. I will be watching closely to ensure they follow through on the staffing promises they made …

We call upon the MSD School Board to immediately begin the implementation of a plan to increase security measures to corporation schools. Specifically, the assignment of law enforcement officers, throughout the school day, at every school. The current random and rotating placement of minimal officers is unacceptable. Every school, every school day, needs an officer on premises, tasked only with the protection of the students & staff and not distracted with the enforcement of routine discipline issues. We understand that these changes will not come without cost and fully support our school officials in pursuing the additional revenue, including an increase in taxation, to pay for these necessary and important upgrades.

The momentum behind this request is becoming impossible for the school board to ignore. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle but seeing this level of backing keeps me going forward.

Security at the high school is very alarming (lack of). People can easily get into unlocked doors that they are aware of and do nothing about. People are let into doors with no proper questioning they are aware of and do nothing about. Security needs to start with the people in charge.

I agree that we must increase security at our schools to STOP any intruder who wants to harm the students. 1. Arm any willing teacher with a firearm or taser. 2. Hire armed security people. 3. Install high tech metal detectors. 4. Pay much closer attn. to ANY mental health problems that students have and get their parents involved. 5. Encourage students to keep their eyes and ears open and if they hear or see something to SAY something. 6. Stop bullies.

As something needs changed. I hate dropping my sister off and her walking into the doors alone. I as well have a son on the way that will attend Martinsville if change is done, if nothing is changed homeschooling is an open option.

Many of the doors at the high school are often unlocked. I agree that we need to work on this and I would like to know there is extra attention being given to safety!

I have been through a school shooting at my son's school. Not something I would wish on anyone to go through!

I agree with petition. My daughter will be a 5th grader at Bell Intermediate and these school shootings have me scared to even allow her to go to school. We need to have security.

I strongly agree something needs to happen and also bullying needs to be addressed and not to look the other way ... Ones that bully shoukd get in trouble because I believe alot of what is happening now in schools is because of being bullied!!!!

I hope for piece of mind that we can make this happen. Better safety for the students as well as staff.
