Windows XP and its derivatives (Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Tablet Edition, Windows XP Media Center, Windows Embedded Standard, Windows Embedded for Point of Sale, Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, Windows Embedded POSReady 2009) are still widely used all over the world by corporations, offices, restaurants (tills), ATMs, transport services, elevators and even gas stations.

According to net market share data released on September, computers running Windows XP still represent the 3.19% of the total internet population, making it the fourth most used Operative System, with 50 million users.

This petition asks Mozilla developers to support Firefox ESR for Windows XP and its derivatives via security patches.

Updates

November 3, 2018

I have been hearing from small business owners who rely on these systems every single day just to keep their doors open. Your stories prove that this is not just about old software but about the livelihoods that depend on these fragile workarounds.

November 3, 2018

Seeing this kind of momentum reminds me why I started this fight for the millions of people who still rely on these systems every single day. The support building up behind this request proves the developers cannot simply ignore the reality of how these machines hold our world together.

I rely on a laptop with the Windows XP operating system, due to the fact that there are no compatible graphics drivers on any OS aside from XP. Please continue to provide security patches for ESR!

There were far more people using XP when Mozilla stopped support for it than there were using Linux when Mozilla started support for it. Unless you want history to show that Mozilla kowtowed to Microsoft and its FUD, and aided the effort to kill a widely popular, highly functional (though not *profitable*) operating system, you should resume Firefox ESR updates for Windows XP. Considering that there are millions of people still using XP, having a few people work on XP support in their spare time seems very reasonable. Please think with with an independent, open mind (like you used to) and do the right thing. Thank you.

Keep the XP support, not everyone has the cash for up to date machines that can handle Win 10!
