Moving Lincoln High School Baseball to Mcbean park
The safety of our children, friends, neighbors, and family is important to us all. As I have lived across the street from Lincoln high school for 9 years, I as well as the rest of N street have had that safety violated by the baseball games that occur across the street from our homes. Foul balls will come flying over the backstop at high speeds and have damaged garage doors and at least 8 cars. This has resulted in many claims being filed against the school and the district. There are also the foul balls that come flying over the fence on the first base line, hitting front doors, cars and landing 100's of times in the front lawns.
There have been many incidents that I have personally been involved in. I was driving down my street to pick up another child when a ball came flying and landing less than a foot from my sons head. The ball hit my car and left over $1500 in damage. If it had hit my sons head there would be no money to fix the damage it would have caused to my family. Sitting in my front lawn one day with my than 7 month old infant a ball came flying over landing a foot or so away from my baby. Had it hit him he could have been severely injured or killed. Those are only two incidents there are many more to tell about. We have been forced to stay inside on game days and park our cars on another street.
Friends and family are forced to find a place to park other than in front of our houses on game days as their car may be damaged by balls. Games occur quite often during the baseball season and now the High school has started renting out the fields to tournament teams. The games go well into the summer now. My neighbors and I have made many phone calls and personal visits to the district to come up with a solution. No solution has been made. To make matters worse the district or the school have recently put up signs on the fence right across the street from our homes telling us to park at our own risk, flying balls may cause damage to our vehicles. It is absurd that the district and the school should think our children playing in the front yard should be done at a risk. It would be the same if our children were playing ball in the street and hitting balls over toward the school parking lot and some of their cars getting damaged, but they are parking there at their own risk. What they are also not realizing is that they are going to cause damage to one of our children. We are asking that they move the baseball games to McBean Park until a solution can be made. So that we has home owners and renters can feel safe in our neighborhood.
I am urging the city of Lincoln to come together as a community and sign this petition! The games should be moved to McBean Park until they can assure us that no more flying balls will come flying over the fences and damaging our properties and worse a person.
