Hello, we are the Skidmore Plastic Free Zone Task Force. If you are like us, one of the reasons you chose Skidmore was to be part of a community that is dedicated to making changes toward a more sustainable future. You wanted to be at a school where you could learn how to get involved and make immediate changes. In our efforts to help Skidmore pave this path forward, we are working with Oceana, a non-profit organization, on a “Break Free from Plastic” campaign. In the future, we hope that Skidmore can completely eliminate single-use plastics on campus.

We are aware that a single-use plastic free campus is difficult task to take on and this change won’t happen right away, but if we don’t start now, then when is it going to happen? WE MUST TAKE ACTION NOW!

Our goal with this petition is to show how much interest there is in moving Skidmore College forward with its commitment to being at the forefront of sustainability. This semester, we will be continuing our mission toward a single-use plastic free campus by implementing a Beverage Initiative. This initiative works toward the removal of plastic bottles from vending machines and campus stores. Another component of this initiative is to raise awareness around the reusable options on campus and to find ways to reduce/eliminate the plastic waste already generated.

By signing this petition, you are helping our community get a step closer to President Conner signing a “Break Free from Plastic” pledge, that demonstrates Skidmore College’s commitment to fully phasing out single-use plastics in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to read our petition! If this mission speaks to you in any way, PLEASE SIGN to show your support for this cause.
