I am extremely unhappy with how the Mooresville Annual Christmas Parade was handled this year. Let's start with the absolute refusal to reschedule it "Because they have never cancelled or rescheduled any parade ever for any reason".
While I understand and respect tradition (I am all about Tradition), it doesn't seem that participant as well as Police Officer, and bystander safety was taken into consideration. I was NOT going to allow my children to stand out in the pouring rain and freezing cold temperatures just for empty floats to go by or have some candy thrown in their direction. They were very upset that we didn't go but I can't afford for them to get sick. My sister stated it was the first time in 10 years that they would miss the parade because she refused to stand in the rain and cold with her kids. You broke their tradition because you refused to give up yours for safety.
The other issue I have is that, if it's true that the town charges to participate in this parade, then the town STOLE your money. I know of a lot of participants backed out because of the weather. You owe them their money back.
I am not sure if we will attend next year or not. The town needs to seriously consider if tradition is more important than safety of ALL the people involved, whether it be a participants, cops directing traffic, or bystander.

This is right on. Families and family units have evolved significantly since 1944. I did see a notes on Facebook where business owners have been quoted as saying no one buys anything that day anyway. I'll perhaps that is because it is a Tuesday and they have other obligations after the parade, in my mind I would think you would get more business traffic should be planned on Saturday were family can intend to spend the afternoon walking, shopping and dining downtown.

Makes sense. Also, cancel the parade and reschedule it if there is a 100 percent chance of rain the next day.
