The Mooresville Annual Christmas parade has been an annual tradition since 1944. However today this tradition is being threatened. Not because there is a desire to end the parade but because the daily life of Mooresville's citizens has evolved. Fewer people live and work in the town of Mooresville and as a result have to commute longer distances to work making it less feasible to leave work or take time off. This results in fewer families attending the parade and fewer lasting memories.

If the parade was moved to the first Saturday before thanksgiving, it would be easier to maintain this life work balance. The Tuesday date is a tradition because most people native to Mooresville remember when almost every business in Mooresville was closed and this day made the most sense.Bosses and business owners understood this, buttoday this is no longer the case.

By moving this parade from it's traditional Tuesday time to the previous Saturday we can once again allow families in Mooresville to enjoy this event and build lasting memories together.

I have spent the last few days hearing from so many of you who want to take your kids to the parade but simply cannot leave work. It is clear that our town values this tradition but our current reality has left too many families on the sidelines. We are working on a way to bring these concerns directly to the organizers.

Seeing this much support confirms that I am not the only one struggling to balance work with these cherished town traditions. My own kids missing out on the parade feels wrong and knowing so many of you feel the same way gives me real hope for a change.

As a person born and raised in Mooresville, the parade has been a family tradition for us since I was a child. I personally have participated in the parade since I was a few months shy of 2. My daughter doing the same since 6 months. I agree with the potential of changing the day and time of the parade to accomidate more families and even out of town family members to come and enjoy a tradition that most of us have always looked forward to each year. The route could be improved as well, it does get a bit crazy but I feel the first thing to address the day and possibly the time. Thank you for the possiblity and for looking into new options.

I was very upset this year with how this event was handled. Both my children cried that evening as they were both supposed to be in it but I praise our dance/gymnastic studio that felt it was unacceptable weather. I agree with moving this event to a weekend so more families could attend and it may bring more business for the businesses in the area because people wouldn't have to rush around on a weekday to get things done! Good luck!

This is right on. Families and family units have evolved significantly since 1944. I did see a notes on Facebook where business owners have been quoted as saying no one buys anything that day anyway. I'll perhaps that is because it is a Tuesday and they have other obligations after the parade, in my mind I would think you would get more business traffic should be planned on Saturday were family can intend to spend the afternoon walking, shopping and dining downtown.

Please move the parade to the 1st Saturday before Thanksgiving and not in the afternoon, around 11:00 in the morning. If you have it early in the day it will not be dark when the parade is finished.

I lived in Mooresville most of my life, and I think moving the parade to the Saturday before thankgiving would be a great idea. I live in Davidson now, their parade is the 1st Saturday in December and there is a better turnout.

Great idea. This would mean more people could attend and be involved in the family activities! Thank you for this!
