To whom this may concern,
I am extremely disappointed with Fontbonne’s decision to forgo online accommodations and instead continue to require students to attend classes in person. As mentioned in the email sent out, many neighboring universities (including similarly sized Webster U) have taken the initiative and switched to an online course program until the end of the year. Additionally, both myself and peers object to claims asserting Fontbonne is not equipped for online instructing, as many of us have already had courses or classes that were either entirely online or used Schoology’s built in functionality for digital learning. Finally, many local businesses and events have taken similar precautions by canceling what have been beloved, annual traditions in St. Louis. Their actions speak magnitudes. That is why it utterly disappoints me that Fontbonne refuses to address the severity of the issue at hand and continues to leave both faculty and students in this higher risk scenario. Fontbonne’s response comes off as ignorant and negligent, masquerading as “bold and diligent” by treading it’s path. I urge you to reassess the situation and reconsider this decision.
Sincerely,
Tom Hood

The school needs to move classes online. It's for the safety of everyone at the school and elsewhere. It's to protect people who have bad immune systems or breathing problems like myself. All schools in illinois are closing for atleast two weeks. And many colleges in illinois and missouri are moving to online. Follow suit.

Some teachers are already moving classes online, instead of having such a piecemeal response Fontbonne should just go online. Being one the last schools to not close will not win Fontbonne any awards or public favor, fighting this will only cost them in the end. God forbid if any students get sick, they will be open for a lawsuit for endangerment or worse.

If the World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus a pandemic and Trump has declared a national emergency, then we need to consider our reasons for why we are still holding classes in person. Yes, we're smaller in size compared to most universities in the STL area. But that does not mean we are at an advantage or better off waiting a while before someone, whether a student or faculty member, contracts the virus.
While we greatly appreciate Fontbonne's attention to this matter the past couple of weeks, we, as a student body and community, need to come together and think about our safety for not only us, but for the greater STL area.
This is an issue that can put us at risk and is not something to be taken lightly. Please consider our urge to cancel in person classes. It is for the betterment of all.

I struggle with online classes, but it is so important to be proactive instead of reactive right now.

We are now under a national emergency because of the situation created by this virus. St. Louis has declared a State of Emergency, and Missouri Governor Parson is expected to announce the same at 5pm today. Let’s not wait any further to take precautionary actions to help keep our students safe.

I have a father that has survived thought cancer but his immune system is really bad. I rather struggle with online classes than bring a virus to my home that has a good chance of killing my family members. If all the school have closed around us. I think it would be the best that we do the same.

Unnecessary to be open. The risk is too high
