I have three daughters that attend Kessler elementary. I am not heartless saying that our homeless should not get a shelter. They need a place to get out of the cold. However I have seen first hand that these areas become a meca for homeless loitering, crime, and drug abuse. Next to schools and youth centers are not the appropriate location.

As a residence in the Old Westside and as advocates for our kids this location is completely wrong! Not only is it located by Kessler and a pre-school, it is also by the local teen center and what my granddaughters call the “Ship Park” located a block away across the street!!! It is a high traffic area for our youth and NOT a place for this shelter!!! Please re-locate away from our most cherished, innocent and vulnerable citizens!!!

Children should always always be first, and as stated by people involved adults, who can make choices to correct their situation, are first, and children 2nd. That is not good enough

The children need and deserve to come first. This shelter excludes families. This would put children at risk of too many dangerous situations from drugs to Registered sex offenders of all levels, people with warrants from who knows where to who knows what, sex acts, plus more. Please consider a location not so close to the children as they are required to be there. Thanks.

Small children are not going to have the knowledge about being careful of what they might find if it's missed. It only takes the missing of one thing, if it happens to be something carrying a volatile pathogen. It happens to some health care providers, even with the proper training. The sweeps of the area after the folks leave is great, but they are only human and things can be overlooked. That's my concern.
