Mountainside Families for Safer Streets

We, the concerned residents of Mountainside, NJ, are calling on Mayor Paul Mirabelli, the Borough Council, and the Mountainside Police Department to urgently address the dangerous speeding happening on our residential streets.

Cars are regularly driving well above the speed limit throughout the borough, creating an increasingly unsafe environment for everyone—especially children playing outside, families walking dogs, neighbors riding bikes, and pedestrians simply enjoying our community.

This is a serious safety issue, and we ask Borough leadership to explore and implement meaningful traffic-calming, enforcement and education measures, including but not limited to the following:

  • Installing additional stop signs where appropriate and permitted
  • Reducing speed limits on certain roads
  • Launching a short-term warning period followed by aggressive speed limit enforcement
  • Increasing police visibility and use of radar signs in problem areas
  • Strongly encouraging the Mountainside Board of Ed and Police Department to collaborate on bicycle, e-bike and scooter safety programs in both Beechwood and Deerfield Schools
  • Work cooperatively with the County of Union to address speeding on county-operated roads

We respectfully urge the Borough to develop and publicly share a comprehensive plan of action within 90 days of receiving this petition.

Let’s act before we face a preventable tragedy. The safety of our families and neighbors is not negotiable.

No matter your age, if you live in Mountainside sign this petition to demand safer streets in Mountainside—now.
