Mother Francis Memorial in Harold’s Cross Park Dublin, Ireland

I was also there. Mother Francis was a lovely person.

Just found this site on my I pad but 88 years old now I went into the orphanage in 1942 but remember when Sister Francis became a nun in St Clare’s and later her real sister.

Back when I was Sr. Joan Kelly I spent a memorable Summer in Spiddal with Mother Francis , Sr.Maria Assumpta, Sr. Mairead and all the kids from the orphanage. Great memories. Francis was one of a kind.

Hi Mark, I don't know if you remember me but I remember you as "Sparky" , I also remember Hubert, Karen and Siobhan. I used to go St Clares during the daytime after school only, along with my brother Robert for about 5 years and we were classed as "the outsiders" because we didn't live there. I remember Mother Francis very well and she was always there for me when I needed someone to help me through difficult times. Only recently I heard she passed away and I realised the last time I spoke to her was at my own fathers funeral in 1989, how time flies. I have many fond memories of the summer holidays in Spiddal and Rosslare, not to mention the Christmas parties that she arranged for us all,,, CIE, Army etc. The woman was not only a mother figure to me but also a trusted friend that I could confide in, a true inspiration. She will be sadly missed. I think your idea for the memorial across the road in Harolds Cross park in honour of Mother is an excellent idea and one that is truly deserved for such a wonderful person. I was at the home in the 60s and Sister Francis was the only one who treated us like humans. She deserves to be remembered properly in the park. Hope this works out.
