We strongly support preservation of the historic Morningside brownstones at 408, 410 and 412 West 115th Street. These homes, built in 1898, are among the oldest residential buildings in Morningside Heights and have been declared worthy of preservation by the New York State Historic Preservation Office. Their retention is also supported by Landmark West!, The Committee to Protect the Upper West Side, the New York Landmarks Conservancy, the Historic Districts Council, Congressman Charles Rangel, State Assembly Member Daniel O’Donnell, State Senator Bill Perkins, City Council Member/Majority Whip Inez E. Dickens, Community Board 9, and many area residents. We urge intervention by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to prevent demolition of the brownstones by Columbia University. In addition, we urge the Commission to schedule a hearing on the proposed Morningside Heights Historic District in order to preserve other significant historic buildings in the neighborhood.

Columbia University keeps pretending these brownstones are disposable inventory instead of irreplaceable history. This surge in support proves they cannot ignore us forever while they try to pave over our neighborhood for another sterile project.

Enough with tearing down everything beautiful in this neighborhood. Columbia just wants more glass boxes and we lose our history for it. Stop the demolition.

my grandparents lived on 115th for years. you cant just erase history because a university wants more space. leave the brownstones alone.

save the history. 1898 is way too old to just gut for no reason.

Please save these! I walk past them every single day and love the architecture. Its such a shame to even think about taking them down.

Total disgrace. They are beautiful buildings. Why does the city keep letting them get away with this?
