There is no doubt that crime has increased drastically in the UK recently. I think there needs to be an increase in the amount of police there are on the streets in the UK; not only to put an end to, or at least reduce the amount of, crime, but also in order to make people feel much safer. There are lots of advantages of making people feel safer and decreasing the crime rates in the UK. For one, tourists would be more willing to come to the UK if they are sure that it's safe to do so, but also businesses, shops etc. would be able to open later as well because they wouldn't have to live in constant fear of falling victim to yet another crime. Conservative plans to cut funds to the police are, in my opinion, ill timed. If they feel there is a need to cut costs, they should do so elsewhere, instead of compromising the safety of people in the UK. I know cuts are necessary, but I think there could be cuts in other areas that would be prove wiser to make. Such incidents as the London riots show clearly that there needs to be an increase in police presence. During the Notting Hill Carnival a few weeks after the riots, there was a noted increase in the amount of police on the streets, and the results of this were clearly visible, with there being next to no reported cases of crime. I am sure I am not the only one who holds these views, and hopefully if you held opposing views before reading this, reading it would have changed your mind (or at least opened your mind to the various advantages that increasing the police presence in the Uk holds).
