More parking for Pawtucket citizens during snow ban
Each winter, residents of Pawtucket face significant challenges during snow bans. Many neighborhoods lack sufficient off-street parking, leaving residents scrambling to find legal places to park when on-street parking is prohibited. This creates stress, safety concerns, and in many cases, costly fines or towing fees for hardworking families.
We respectfully ask the City of Pawtucket to allocate funding and develop a plan to provide additional off-street parking options during declared snow bans. Possible solutions could include:
Opening additional municipal lots free of charge during snow bans
Partnering with local businesses, or churches to temporarily use their parking lots
Creating designated neighborhood overflow parking areas
Improving communication about available snow ban parking locations
Access to safe and legal parking during winter storms is not a luxury — it is a necessity. Many residents do not have driveways, and public transportation or alternative parking options are limited in certain areas.
By investing in more accessible off-street parking during snow bans, the City can reduce unnecessary fines and towing, ease financial burdens on residents, improve compliance with snow removal efforts, and strengthen trust between the community and local government.
We urge city officials to prioritize this issue before the next winter season and work with residents to develop a fair and practical solution.
