For several years, Arlington Public Schools has leased 30 parking spaces from the Dominion Hills Area Recreation Association ("DHARA") to be used by Ashlawn staff during the school year. Because the existing parking lots on the Ashlawn campus will not be available during the 2013-14 school year to due to construction of the addition to Ashlawn, APS is seeking to lease 30 additional spaces from DHARA from October to May. Without such additional spaces, the only parking options for Ashlawn's 100+ teachers and staff are extremely limited street parking and other parking lots that are significantly further from the school.

On September 12, 2013, the DHARA Board will revisit its decision NOT to lease any additional spaces for Ashlawn staff from October 2014-May 2014. Ashlawn's administration is willing to be flexible to accommodate any concerns that DHARA has related to leasing additional spaces. As concerned DHARA pool members, Ashlawn parents and Ashlawn staff, we ask that the DHARA Board approve the leasing of additional spaces for staff from October to May. We believe that We believe that such approval would provide additional income to DHARA, benefit Ashlawn staff and students, and would be consistent with a spirit of community and neighborliness.
