I want more opportunities to learn about global justice and sustainability and how to act for change.
Petitioning University Presidents:
We call for more opportunities for third level students in Ireland to learn about global justice and sustainability and how to act for change.
84% of students want to bring about positive change, but 45% feel helpless about their ability to do so. This worries us. With huge challenges facing the world we need all students feeling capable of taking action to bring about change.
At Suas, we know that learning events on campus can support students to feel confident in acting for social change. We need more of these opportunities available in Irish universities and we are calling on University Presidents to ensure this happens.
Today we live in a world where 20% of the world’s people own 80% of the world’s wealth, where 1 in 7 people go hungry every day, where inequality is rising, and where climate change threatens to submerge whole countries under water if action is not taken now. We need students of all disciplines to learn about these issues as we need everyone to play a role in addressing them.
We believe that change is possible. We believe in the desire and capacity of people to create a better future for themselves, their communities and the wider world, if given the chance. We believe in the value of education in enabling people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to positively change their lives and the lives of others, and, we believe that everyone has a part to play in creating a better world.
