The Jamerson YMCA is a wonderful resource for the Lynchburg community. We love the friendliness and professionalism of the employees, the beauty and cleanliness of the facility, the creativity of the classes and instructors, and the state of the art Kidz Gym facilities.
Unfortunately, we as homeschool moms feel that we are unable to fully take advantage of the resources offered by the Jamerson, due to the limited Kidz Gym hours. The child care room is a wonderful place for babies and preschoolers, but many of us homeschool our children into elementary and middle school, and by necessity and design they participate in whatever we moms do during the day. In many cases, we depend on the Jamerson for our own AND our children's healthy activity and exercise throughout the week. It is often frustrating that we are restricted to attending classes and using gym facilities only during the few late afternoon hours when Kidz Gym is open. This frequently conflicts with dinner, naptimes of younger siblings, and other extra-curricular activities. This frustration has even on occasion led to some of us cancelling a family membership simply because we felt that our whole family was unable to fully benefit.
Since the membership at the Jamerson (and the wider community of the Lynchburg area) contains such a high population of homeschool families whose access to the gym resources are limited by the Kidz Gym hours, we ask that you consider offering extended hours and/or exercise programs and classes specifically targeting children of elementary and middle school ages. We feel that this would greatly enhance the experience of a significant percentage of the current Jamerson YMCA family and future members.
Thank you.

I am gathering all these stories about the scheduling conflicts you face and preparing them for a formal meeting with the Jamerson management. Please email the branch director today to request a meeting about the Kidz Gym hours. We need to show them that our families are leaving because the current schedule does not work for us.

We hit a significant mark that shows the YMCA leadership exactly how many families are feeling left out of the current schedule. Post our link on your neighborhood Facebook groups today to ensure the board cannot ignore us.

I quit the Y five years ago because I started homeschooling. Extended hours and accommodation for my kids would have made me stay.
I've been a member for years. My husband is Bobby Decker. I use to go to the Y 3-5 times a week. You can check.. I have been a handful of times in the past year. I homeschool an 11year old and a 12 year old. I have asked for years for their to be HS hours. We , as a family, we just talking about quitting the Y because WE can't use it. This would be a blessing if you offered HS hours.
I love the Y but I have considered quitting. I have two children who are too old for the kids room. However, they want me to pay $70 each to have my girls learn how to walk on a treadmill. Because I don't want to spend the extra, I have not been going. I will probably quit although I do not really want to. I love the Y.
We are members that have not been able work out in months! My kids are elementary age and I prefer morning (not 5:45 early) class work outs. If more Kidz gym hours isn't feasible, My kids would love to join in on classes but we have been told that is not an option.
I love the Jamerson Y, and while I have a family membership, I often come alone since the times when I would come with my children the Kids Gym is not available. I would love an activity/gym option that my school age children could participate in during school hours, since we homeschool. Thanks for considering!
As a homeschool family with 5 kids ages 3-12, we would definitely use daytime kids gym hours!
I have asked for this several times on comment cards. We homeschool families need this!

As a homeschooling family, the YMCA Kidz Gym (during the day) would be a huge blessing to our family (of 8) and would be used regularly. I sure hope they can figure out how to offer this. If they do, we will join the YMCA today! (We are currently not members.)
