As you all know, IT for Geography at Newcastle is a big issue right now. There are not enough computers with the software we need to complete basic geographical analysis (for example, Photoscan), as well as Daysh cluster being consistently booked out for small and large classes. The majority of the lecturers are nice and let you stay in there if you are quiet, but some lecturers kick you out, even if you are quietly doing dissertation work.
This will not change unless we make a fuss. So please, sign this petition to make the university listen to us about needing more computers with geographical software on them, as well as 3rd year priority over small classes.

The stories coming in about being kicked out of the Daysh cluster while working on dissertations are infuriating. Send the link to this petition to your department rep today. We need them to understand that this lack of software and space is actively hurting our academic work.

The momentum behind our demand for better IT access is growing quickly. Post the link on your department Facebook group and email the head of the school to tell them we need these changes now.

the daysh lab situation is actually a joke. how are we supposed to finish our dissertations when we get kicked out of the only place that has the software?
Literally had to hike to the other side of campus just to find a pc that runs arcgis and surprise surprise it was already being used by someone else.
Should be a geography only cluster
That's not fair on students not being able to do their jobs.
Only cluster that has qGIS and is constantly booked... Makes sense

I was unable to complete my assessment for 2 weeks due to external bookings and a lack of software in other clusters.
