There needs to be more avenues for all kinds of medical procedures. Not all patients can get to care, even if they can afford the care. Making more venues for heart surgery seems to be a best answer for an underserved community.

Having multiple mediums for medical procedures is a must. It would be negligent on our part, as medical professionals, to not allow the public other means of seeking procedures that they would other wise be able to afford. If allowing Floyd Medical Center to have an open heart surgery center would benefit those that can not obtain it in other facilities, then why not have it. It is our duty to take care of those that need it.

As the spouse of a Floyd employee, I am routinely amazed by the level of the community advocacy, outreach, and involvement they demonstrate. Floyd is committed to the community of NWGA and should have the ability to build a comprehensive heart program to serve this community.

Patients should to have options for their healthcare. They’re already limited more than they should be by insurance companies. Hospitals shouldn’t have a monopoly on any procedures. Competition is what makes the American system work.

Floyd needs heart surgery because many citizens lack insurance and funds needed for such expensive surgery across town. The more heart services available to citizens of Floyd, Cherokee, Chattooga, Polk and many other surrounding counties the better our region would be.
