We are asking the City of Fort Saskatchewan to create more dedicated off-leash dog zones throughout the city. Not everyone drives — and dogs deserve the chance to run and play freely, regardless of their owner’s mode of transportation. Currently, the city has just one off-leash dog park, and it’s not within walking distance for many residents.

In a time of rising climate concern, we should be encouraging walkable neighborhoods — and Fort Sask has more than enough green space to make that happen.

Small, local dog parks would not only support dogs’ physical and mental health (which, in turn, supports the well-being of their families too), but also helps build stronger bonds between neighbors — both the two-legged and four-legged kind. One large dog park doesn’t work for every pup, especially those who are reactive and need calmer, more controlled environments to safely enjoy the outdoors.

And this isn’t just a dog-owner issue. More accessible dog spaces mean fewer dogs being exercised in unsuitable areas like ball diamonds and sports fields — helping keep shared public spaces cleaner and more enjoyable for everyone. No more surprise “landmines” while chasing a foul ball. (Our sincere sympathies to anyone who's been there.)

This petition will be shared with:

Mayor Gale Katchur

Fort Saskatchewan City Council – responsible for reviewing and approving community development and funding initiatives

Community Services & Parks Departments – responsible for maintaining public spaces and planning recreational amenities

Thank you for supporting a more inclusive, accessible, and community-focused future for Fort Saskatchewan’s dogs — and its humans.
