As a freshman the students should be given Biology as it is a much easier subject, followed by Chemistry and then Physics.

Science teachers are not providing enough teaching support to encourage and develop a liking for subject matter. A do it yourself culture is prevalent and students end up requiring expensive tutoring outside school. Physics first has resulted in students entering high school and feeling inadequate in pursuing a science career due to stress. Not having biology till junior year also puts them at a disadvantage for summer research opportunities which require 1-year of biology.

Its so scary to hear about the such horror stories of MHS parents with Physics. I currently have 8th & 5th grader. I agree that kids should be given a choice and have pre-requiste before taking physics. I have even heard from parents who said past 2 decades nothing at MHS has changed with Physics. I am hoping that school takes this as priority and find a solution sooner.

Physics should not be a freshman course. Earth Science should be. The kids haven't even learned the math for it. Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and then Physics. That's the order it should be.

Absolutely. Physics is not appropriate for 9th grade. It can't be a coincidence that all 3 of my extremely bright kids performed below average in physics. One was distressed that her bad physics grade was a blight on her transcript.
This has been going on since at least 2002-2003. Obviously it wasn't just my kids. Time to make a much needed adjustment. In the 70s we had physics in 11th grade(?) and it was still a tough subject.

While some may be ready for Physics First because they completed pre-requisite math courses in order to understand necessary concepts, not all students are. It would benefit students to have more options and take a course only when pre-requisites have been met. That may come sophomore or junior year for students. A one-shoe-fits-all approach is not helping anyone.

Mr.Solavan can not handle his job. His ego has ruined so many children. Please help our kids! Does he have kids in our schools? Also, Mrs. Hebner was the worst teacher ever! Montgomery did nothing after she abused my child and did not follow her IEP . Get it together! Fix your weaknesses! Own it!

After years of feedback informing the BOE that the Science Program was under performing for our students, this appears to be a useful platform to assist with the needed change.

I believe the intention is good, however, it's the execution that prevents the benefits to be experienced by the students. Believe it is time for the Board and administrators to admit that while their intentions are good, they need to adopt the traditional cadence of study and put an end to the experiment.

Additional comment relates to quality of teachers. With 2 children that have now gone through their years of Science at MHS, I can probably only say 1 teacher stands out as being a good teacher. This is blatantly sad! How about teachers that love what they do and show their passion for the field of science? How about teachers that engage the students to actually learn, in a way that they are "teaching" the material, not read the textbook and figure it out? Unacceptable!

Physics first has shown not to be effective for our students. Chemistry or biology would be a better fit for students' ability at the freshman level and would better match up with math at that level.
