Common sense solution, and how communities have evolved historically, everywhere. The county should have only limited regulatory power in this matter, and certainly not whether I wish to use my house this way....with houses as ‘big’ as they are, and families so small, it’s smart and resource conscious.

This important as an option for people who want to age in place and maintain independence, yet also need a little more help and want to downsize.

The County needs fresh thinking to address an array of concerns including its lack of affordable housing. Fresh thinking to increase ADUs makes sense.

This is a small way to encourage more affordable housing for renters and will also make housing more affordable (via rental income) for home-owners. Plus it give families options to live close to each other, while having some independence. I'm all for it and doubt that it will invite a tidal wave of backyard tiny houses, or whatever fearful folks are imagining.

Approval would be an important step (and signal) that we're doing something to try to offset a century of de jure racial segregation in our nation by all levels of government, most prevalently by the federal government.

ADUs are not new to the County. There are currently less than 500 with a population of over 1 million people. The proposed changes in their current form will have minimal impact on any specific community without any boom in there creation while creating dramatic opportunities for individual property owners and renters alike, thereby benefiting Montgomery County in a multitude of ways.

A reasonable compromise should allow all residents to prosper. In DC AU Park many have ADUs that help families afford housing and provide access for everyone

This is just one of many small steps that could make a difference in a housing affordability in the county. It is our responsibility to pass this bill.

ADUs offer opportunities for housing variety sorely missing in Montgomery County at the moment. They improve the ability of seniors to age-in-place and increase access to housing options in neighborhoods near transit and other amenities.

ADUs are a smart solution to housing. They enable people to age in place, provide starter housing, and make Montgomery County a better community.
