I think this will cut our sleep, because we will have to stay up later to finish homework.

Changing the school start time is a bold move, but it's definitely not for the best. First off, we would be getting home way late, and that is tough on kids with outside sports, or if they have to look after little kids after school. That's not even mentioning the homework. Getting home at 3:30 is just going to cause kids to stay up later, and cancel out the extra hour in the morning. It won't help the kids that procrastinate, it will only allow them to procrastinate more. I am one of those kids, and I know that there are more like me. I am also a school choice kid, an extra hour in the morning would help me in the morning commute from Barnstable, but I wouldn't get home, on a regular day without sports or clubs, until 4-4:30. I am also a sports player, mainly soccer, and we would miss much more school when leaving earlier to go to away games, and even home games. Imagine missing an hour of school to go to a home game. I just see too many problems for me to support this idea.

No I'm all very set with going to school at 9 and getting out at 330. The schedule itself already is a horror show!

I am opposed to the later start time for middle school and high school. At this age kids have more homework, sports and jobs which later release would impact. NOT A GOOD IDEA

Changing the start time of school would be difficult for the people like me who school choice to Monomoy District; especially when parents have to go to work early in the morning.

I'd really rather not to have to move my whole day up by an hour; I already have trouble with my daily plans as it is.

Even though the preceding later start time seemed like it was going to benefit students, it's impacts were not noticed. Personally, it was more of a hinderance than a help. Getting out even later pushed all of my after school obligations later, which just lead to staying up even later to finish homework. The added sleep these delays are advertised with don't realistically exist for most involved students.

How would a later start time for school be helping the kids? I have to wake up every morning at 5:30am for my job . An early start time for school is just another lesson for these kids to teach responsibility and help prep them for the future

I don't agree with the later start time- it will effect those of us dismissed for sports, those that work and will make home work difficult to get done late after games

I feel that if school starts later that it will not change anything. Students will think it's okay now to stay up later than they already do because of this start time. So they will be just as tired as they are now. Also I think this will create problems with students that have to get their younger siblings off the bus. Some parents work late and it is the responsibility of students to help their parents. Another problem is with sports, one example is winter sports have 3 boys basketball teams and 2 girls teams. Needing at least 3 practice times if school ends later it would keep the sports players at the school later than they usually are. Having games, even in the Cape and Islands league, students would miss more time from school and I know we try to prevent that as much as possible. These are just a few problems that I see and think that we shouldn't have a later start time.

I'm really proud of you guys for taking the initiative and doing this for the school. Having a later start time would kill people with after school activities. Already students miss class on days we have away games. How would this later time affect that? Would it make students miss even more class time, or cause sports to be moved back, leading to a later return time? Not everybody's body clock works that way. Many people cannot take an hour from one time of the day and add it somewhere else. There are certain time limits that some people are productive up until. I do not believe this adjustment would be beneficial to the student body as a whole. You may think of it as moving time around equally, but really, it is just giving high schoolers one less hour. If you read this, thanks. Give a comment, too. Everyone's voice matters.

I understand what the school is trying to say, but pushing for more sleep isn't as simple as, just "go to bed earlier". If the schedule changes, we will be staying up later, and will still remain tired in the morning. I believe that if we change the school start time, it will be more difficult to adjust to the new start time, so we should keep the same start time for more consistency.

Sports and homework would be tougher with the new start and end times. Students would just end up having to stay up later after sports to do homework and would defeat the purpose of gaining an hour of sleep.

I recently just got a probable after school job and 3:30 release would not allow me to do that. It may begin to affect students because with sports and jobs after school kids will be staying up later because there is not enough time at night. I'm glad they considered the hours of sleep we get but this is not the right solution. We can keep thinking about that. Please do not disrespect the staff in trying to keep the old time.
