Politics in the U.S. has been reduced to an auction where by the votes of lawmakers in congress are sold to the highest bidder. These lawmakers were democratically elected to serve as representatives for the people of the United States, but instead they are owned and controlled by special interests groups that are mostly lobbyists for multi-national corporations. Although signing this petition will not change the political discourse in this country overnight, it is a means to show congress that this is an issue that a majority of the people in the united states are concerned about. Democracy can only work effectively when voters are engaged and ready to actively participate in the election process; a process that should not be decided by how much money one can contribute to a campaign; but what a majority of the voters want.
