Moncton Downtown Events Center/Moncton Centre-ville Centre d'événements
This is not just for the people of Moncton, this development will benefit the Maritimes as a whole community, drawing in larger events benefits the economy and this is why the arena should be larger than the set 7,500 seats.
We believe the people of Moncton would like to build for the future and with the recent announcement of the seating being set at 7,500 it is a disapointment to many. The dream of the Mayor and deceased Ian Fowler was to build a 10,000 seat arena and was slowly squashed by those around them. The current coliseum holds 6,700 seats and with the new arena being set at 7,500 that is only an add of 800 seats, which is the bare minimum for any larger event.
We believe that the arena should have a minimum of 9000 seats and if we can gather 1000 signatures we can show the city that the people of the greater Moncton area and the Maritimes are behind Mayor Leblanc and are looking into the future of the city and what it can and could become.

It seems a waste to build an event center and add only 800 seats above what the coliseum now has! Moncton and the surrounding communities have grown since the coliseum was built. I urge you to rethink your decision. Look to the future! This city and surrounding towns are STILL growing by leaps and bounds! Commit to the 10,000 seats and be done with it!
Moncton is growing quickly, and desperately needs to focus its growth inward rather than continuing to sprawl. This centre has the potential to create spinoff revenue and development and help reinvigorate Moncton's downtown for the next 25+ years. Build for the future.
don't lose sight of the potential, remember what the budwieser center ( former JLC in London) has done for the city, 9000plus is what we need for an expanding city.
You don't just want a fancy Harbour Station (even though it is a nice facility!) - you should be gunning for ~10,000 seats if you want to attract premier events. Think big!
Build it right, for once have a vision for the future. We need 10 000 or more seats, with curtains to control atmosphere inside the building
I agree wiith George Leblanc on the larger center. Otherwise, if there is to be no significant increase with seating. then stay with the status quo using the Highfield Square parking lot as a snow dump.
We need at least 13000 seats for any big names to come to Moncton. I worked in the music industry and toured with VH and others and trust me when I say that most big names will not look at you or get out of bed unless 13000 people show up and the venue is large enough for their full stage show. With the growth of Moncton, any less than 13000 we'd be having to build on to a proposed 8000-9000 seat arena in a few short years or risk losing millions in revenue for the city by big bands not wanting to play in Moncton. Take into consideration that if a big name plays Moncton, we would have our population attending plus surrounding areas from Nova Scotia and PEI. 9000 seats is way too shortsighted but that's just the way Moncton thinks....its why a city of our population has traffic congestion like a huge city...because whomever designed the city layout originally didnt have the foresight to build for future population growth. Moncton needs to think big if they want to have the success of bigger cities but I am always afraid that the city will never shake it's small town mentality. Until it does, we will have nothing to rave about and people will not come to our city. What is here except a few old tired attractions? The city needs an enema and a fresh new marketing makeover. It could start with a 13000 seat arena!!

For a metropolitan area that will likely be over 200,000 people in 40-50 years time, a 7,500 seat arena is just too small. We need to be planning for the future - now.
