To ACPS School Board and VA Delegates and Senators: I give consent that my signature can be used to support the following policy proposals:

  1. Proposed ACPS School Board Policy Addition to ALEXANDRIA CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS ENERGY CONSERVATION AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS (FA-R): Section: Water (insert language below into the ACPS Water Policy #4).
  2. Proposed VA State Legislation: “Each local school board shall develop and implement a plan to test and, if necessary, remediate mold from sources identified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as high priority for testing, including insulating pipes inside walls, thoroughly cleaning and replacing filters for HVAC units, identifying the source of damage to ceiling tiles, immediately repairing roof leaks or any other sources of food or moisture leading to fungi growth. The local school board shall give priority in the testing plan to schools whose school building was constructed, in whole or in part, before 1986

I'm so proud of the students that have brought this to our attention. But why did they have to ? Isn't it our job to take care of our youth. Mold/Mildew is so dangerous to students as well as to teachers. If indoor air quality is not a priority then you might as well allow smoking and vaping in the schools. At least then students will have a say in how their lungs are being destroyed.

My son is at GW. Missed many days last year due to respiratory issues. It is unacceptable that there is mold in the school and needs immediate attention.

Duct work in enclosed spaces (such as above drop ceilings) often require insulation to prevent condensation (and related mold).

Another byproduct of years of physical property neglect and underfunding. Shame on previous leadership.

Mold is growing in my classrooms and I am concerned for my well being of myself and peers due to this outrage.
