Final supporters
We, the undersigned, petition the Ministry of Justice not to outsource the provision of interpreters and translators in the justice sector to a single commercial agency. In particular, we request that:
1. The National Agreement be preserved and made mandatory.
2. All interpreters working in the justice sector must be registered on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters.
3. The Ministry of Justice engage in a meaningful consultation with the interpreting profession to enable efficiency savings to take place.
4. The Ministry of Justice consider the adverse impact the contract with the preferred supplier is likely to have on ethnic minorities and on foreign-language speakers.

I have been reading through all the messages coming in from colleagues across the country and the frustration is just palpable because everyone knows the quality will plummet under a single agency. I am spending my afternoons drafting formal letters to the ministry now and while they are being incredibly elusive I think it is important that we keep piling on the pressure so they actually have to look at these signatures.

I checked the screen and we are almost at a hundred signatures which feels wild because I was just talking about this to a friend earlier today and they thought nobody would care but clearly they were wrong. If everyone here just went ahead and sent this over to a person or two we could absolutely blast past that hundred mark before the day even ends.

Ridiculous decision. Justice shouldnt be about whoever is the cheapest option.
So worried about the impact on the vulnerable people who need these services. Please rethink this.
My husband has been doing this for 20 years and he is furious. You cant just replace experience with a cheap contract.
People's lives depend on getting the words right in court. Stop trying to save money on things that actually matter.
