Wantabadgery is a small village 40 km east of Wagga is and 30 km southeast of Junee consisting of 42 residential properties and 41 rural farming and grazing properties with approximate population of between 300 and 400 people and also has major arterial road networks throughout this area. The Rural Fire brigade currently provides emergency responses to bush fires, motor vehicle accidents, structural fires along with storm damage and flood mitigation in the community. The recent spate of major incidents in our brigade has exposed the inadequacies of being able to communicate to other emergency services. As an example, in the past number of years we have had close to 40 motor vehicle accidents in our local area including 4 deaths and every one of those accidents has been in an area where there has not been any mobile telephone service to which has caused major delays in receiving police and ambulance responses. Apart from the motor vehicle accidents we also have, as mentioned above, bushfires, floods and storm damage. I think in this day and age there should be mobile telephone coverage in all areas and the emphasis must be placed on attaining this rather than having a national broadband network which will not help our emergency services at all.

Definitely needs good coverage out here, as when I was staying there with my 84 yr. old friend, was concerned about the isolation, and not being able to contact anyone in an emergency.

I often house sit at wantabadgery and it is not too safe if I fall or get sick when I am there. My mobile phone would always be in my pocket while I am outside. To no avail as they don't have coverage.
