May Macquarie University continue to be one of the best language proficiency university. May the decision to discontinue major language course from the university, be reversed to allow the multicultural Australia to prosper economically and socially.

This is unbelievably short-sighted and shamefully based on economic rationalism.

I studied languages at Macquarie University. A brilliant department of talented teachers who are educating students who will change the world. Shortsighted and isolationist to cancel these languages courses.

Relegating Australians to monolingualism lacks foresight; we need to provide the next generation of students the opportunity to engage meaningfully with languages other than English. If this is not fostered at the tertiary level, what hope do we have in secondary schools of stemming the alarming trend of students opting out of language studies all together?

I learnt German at Macquarie as part of my teaching degree. The staff were fantastic and shared their love of German and their wide outlook on the world and the part Germany and the German language plays. Keep a wide and international perspective alive at Macquarie!

Language learning leads to improved intercultural competence- we should be giving our young Australians as much opportunity as possible to improve in this area. Please reverse the decision to discontinue these valuable languages.

Getting rid of these language courses impacts schools, teachers, and students all over the country. Language skills provide endless opportunities and this will close so many doors for students.

It's really important for students in Australia to have access to learning languages other than English. The more people with intercultural understanding and multi lingual skills, the better.

The future of languages education is dependent upon quality education opportunities for students and prospective teachers. It is necessary for tertiary facilities, such as Macquarie University, to offer courses in various languages to provide students with adequate choice in language study! If Australia wishes to increase education standards in relation to leading OECD nations it must value languages education across all levels of education. Simply offering language study based on perceived geopolitical and economical importance lacks vision and insight into value of languages education and the extensive benefits to learners and the nation!

As a society that prides itself on its multicultural diversity the loss of language study at university level is shameful. Language study in Australia has been neglected for too long and we should not accept losing this vital skill in a global world.

Reverse your decision and keep these languages! Communication within our Australian community and with the wider world depends on us fostering a knowledge of languages. Our homeland defence depends on it, if nothing else!

Major impact on Australia and its education system. No wonder LOTE teachers are in huge demand - but only if you rely on teachers from overseas.

Languages are not just courses; they are gateways to cultural understanding, global competence, and enriched perspectives.
By discontinuing language programs, Macquarie University risks severing crucial connections to diverse worldviews and diminishing the richness of our educational experience.
The decision appears to disregard the immense value that language studies bring to the holistic development of students. Proficiency in multiple languages not only enhances cognitive abilities but also fosters a deep appreciation for diversity, which is an invaluable asset in today's interconnected world.
We implore the university to reconsider the decision.
